More knitting

Posted by Susie on March 26, 2008

This is the other knitting project I have finished recently. It’s a shrug made out of some wool I found in Oxfam. The pattern was made collaboratively by a group over at Craftster and can be downloaded as a pdf from Peony Knits (it’s in the sidebar).

Very snuggly.

Better late than never…

Posted by Susie on March 26, 2008

This is a jumper that I first dreamt up in the last round of Wardrobe Therapy to replace a horrible Velveteen Rabbit that I never liked in the first place (a ‘Torture Rabbit’?).

I made it using the general instructions for a seamless yoke sweater in Elizabeth Zimmerman’s excellent book Knitting Without Tears. It’s the first jumper I have made that fits me perfectly and the yarn is thick but soft. I’m very happy with it.

Something Blue and Something Purple

Posted by Susie on March 2, 2008

Things have quietened down on the work front now. Most importantly, I feel I have enough spare words to use a few to post some updates, so I plan to do a few quick-fire posts today on various topics.

First up is knitting. I’ve been knitting a little bit most days recently, as it’s a great way to relax after a day at the computer. I have sort-of-finished a cardigan (which still needs blocking / steaming and a button sewing on):

The pattern is Wendy Bernard’s Something Red, and I used some aubergine coloured alpaca-cashmere yarn. It’s beautifully soft, but the real test will be in the wearing. I will sew the button on today - promise! This was originally part of January’s monthly outfit, but the dress never got made…

On the needles at the moment is the Craftster circular shrug. It’s very simple - you knit a large rectangle and then sew it together and lo! you have a shrug. I’ve nearly finished it. Instead of ribbing in the body section, I have done a staggered diamond pattern. I found the yarn in Oxfam - it’s a mohair/wool/acrylic mix from the ’80s (I think) - and loved the colour so much I bought it on the spot without knowing what I was going to do with it.

Craft Interlude

Posted by Susie on September 15, 2007

While waiting for my wood to be mitred (which is now done - the door-making factory opens for business in about an hour), I decided to to a quick knitting project. This is the result.

Edit: it has been pointed out to me that the above could be read to mean that I knitted it in a hour. Unfortunately, I am not superhuman, and it actually took a couple of evenings. :-)
