Cupboard door prototype

Posted by Susie on September 10, 2007

This is a prototype for the kitchen cupboard doors I am going to make. This is a drawer front and I plan to make all the cupboard doors for the base units in this style.

The wood is some old hardwood floorboards that I client of mine kindly let me have. I’m going to see them later on today and will pick up a load more to do the rest of the doors. The inner panel is just stained and varnished plywood, with an extra bit of softwood to raise the level of the handle.

I’m actually very pleased with how this turned out. I think it will go well with the rest of the kitchen and won’t look too new against the old spice drawers.

The picture doesn’t do the colour of the wood justice, but it gives a general idea. The colour of the wood will probably change as I oil it, anyway - hopefully to a warmer colour. Oh, and the gaps in the top mitres don’t show as much in real life, either!

Wow. That’s a lot of work!

It’ll be so distinctive when you’re done.

These are going to look fantastic, Zooza! Your creativity and ability always impresses me. That kitchen is going to be beautiful, and unique in all the world (hope you’re familiar with The Little Prince — “unique in all the world” is extremely high praise).
