Spice drawers

Posted by Susie on May 14, 2007

They’re in! It was hell working with such heavy, bulky objects in such a confined space, and I spent most of the weekend feeling very grumpy indeed, but at least it’s done now.

Work in progress

Posted by Susie on May 11, 2007

I’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me. I plan to get rid of the remaining floor tiles and then get the spice drawers into position. This also involves building a base and a microwave cabinet. Let’s see if I can get it all done…

The photo is of a work in progress. This is at the dining end of the kitchen. I designed the radiator cabinet so it is deep enough to hang clothes to dry in the winter, so we don’t lose any drying space, but nor do we have to look at our smalls while we eat. I still have to get the doors to fit properly (sand them a bit, as they are just a tad too wide) and fit the handles.

The drawer above is going to hold our cutlery and napkins (I just need to create compartments inside). Above that is a cupboard to hold gin and cookbooks. Eventually the whole lot will be all one colour.

Cork Tiles

Posted by Susie on May 11, 2007

The special cork tiles I have chosen for the kitchen and sitting room arrived this week. This is just four of them laid out on the kitchen floor. I think they look great - it’ll take a bit of planning to make the best use of the beautiful burr effect, but it should be worth it. They’re not cheap, so I only ordered one pack to begin with, but now I’ll go ahead and order the rest.

I’m still here

Posted by Susie on May 3, 2007

I haven’t posted for a while because I have been extremely busy. I’ve got so much on the go at the moment - juggling work for clients with haring round the country doing research for my book, rebuilding the kitchen I seem to have destroyed, and generally having fun (I should probably give that last one up).

A surprise added to the mix this week was a letter from the town council saying that the new allotments are ready. I’ve been on a waiting list for so long, I’d pretty much forgotten about it. But now, I am the proud tenant of a bare patch of earth, that wants digging and planting and whatnot. Great timing, eh?

I spent this afternoon organising my diary and working out when I’m going to do everything. It’s all looking good. My next mini-project for the kitchen will be building the drinks cabinet / cutlery drawer / radiator cabinet combination I have dreamed up. Will post pics when ready.
