I’m just having a break from doing the hoovering and dusting throughout the house. One thing I am really beginning to realise is that Maxwell is so right about it being important to be able to hoover around furniture easily. It makes such a difference. Our new sofa and the new chair I picked up in an antiques shop yesterday (to replace the big blue monster) both have castors, and it is so good to be able to just wheel them out of the way and vacuum around them. The new chair is also a better size and takes up much less room, making it easier to manoevre the hoover around anyway. I’m going to bear this ‘move furniture easily’ rule when planning the rest of the house.
Another discovery is that microfibre cloths are excellent. Great for dusting, polishing - everything. I had heard about their amazing dirt-lifting properties, but had never got round to trying one. I finally bought one last week, as part of making our home a healthier place and using less toxic cleaning products. I do still like using furniture polish, though, so I have decided that once I have finished my current can of furniture spray, I’m going to change to the Earth Friendly Products one. I love the smell of orange and I think something with a nice pong will make cleaning more pleasant and therefore something I’m more likely to do. I already use their Orange Mate for cleaning the bathroom, which is lovely and works brilliantly.
